Children's Workshops

Bringing Science and Creativity to Life!

Holiday fun for children aged 6-8 years and 9-11 years. In addition to our daily activities, during the local school holidays we also offer fantastic workshops for children which are a great way to have fun and learn at the same time. They are fully interactive; children are totally immersed in carrying out experiments or making and creating (depending on the type of workshop). Many of the workshops involve an element of 'Make and Take' projects when the children are able to take what they have made home.

Specific workshops are aimed at age groups 6-8 years and 9-11 years. Please check the intended age group of your chosen workshop. We cannot accept children who are younger than the intended age and we would be very grateful if you respect this decision.

The cost of our workshops is as follows:

Half Day: £12.50 per child
Full Day:  £23.50 per child
Twilight:  £25.00 per child

While we do our best to include all the activities mentioned in the descriptions, some activities may vary on the day. We recommend warm, practical clothing and sensible footwear for all the workshops.

SPECIAL OFFER:  Please note that the cost of the workshop is for the workshop only. If you would like to visit the Centre either after or before the workshop then you will have to purchase an entrance ticket. However, we are offering a special discounted rate of just £5 pp if admission to the Centre is purchased at the time of pre-booking a workshop (not including twilight workshops). This special offer admission applies to any adults who are dropping off children booked onto a workshop and who wish to stay in the Centre and any children within the same group that are not attending the workshop but wish to stay in the Centre (up to a reasonable limit).

FOR EXAMPLE: if the booking is for 1 child attending a workshop and staying in the Centre after the workshop, 1 adult and 1 child not attending the workshop then you pay:
  • £12.50 for the workshop + £5 to stay in the Centre after the workshop = £17.50.
  • £5 for the adult
  • £5 for the extra child not attending the workshop   

This discount only applies if pre-booked AT THE SAME TIME AS BOOKING THE WORKSHOP.

Tuesday 23rd - 'Car of the Future' half day

Create model electric cars powered by solar panels, fuel cells, batteries and capacitors. Discover what future transport might be like and see which perform the best.

Times: 10.30am - 1pm and 2pm - 4.30pm

Wednesday 24th - 'Eyes on the Universe' half day

What's in space? Can we go there? Can we see it? How big is it? Is there anybody there? So many questions! Come and find out some of the answers by doing fascinating hands-on activities.

Cost: £12.50 (this is for the workshop only)
Age: 6 - 8 years

Thursday 25th - 'Full Moon' full day Twilight Special

Our Moon is a fascinating but mysterious place. Sometimes you see it at night and sometimes you can see it during the day but why? And why do we only ever see one side? Come and find out some fascinating facts, make your own Moon model, create some messy craters and build a Moon lander. All this plus the chance to look at the almost Full Moon through the giant telescopes (weather permitting)

Time: 2pm - 8pm
Cost: £25.00
Age: 9 - 11 years

Please note whilst we endeavour to include all activities mentioned in the description, some activities may vary on the day.
