Support Us

Did you know we are an educational charity?

The Observatory Science Centre is operated by Science Projects Ltd: a company with charitable status dedicated to the promotion of science for everyone. Charity No. 298542.

The science centre opened in 1995 in the former home of The Royal Observatory, Herstmonceux which was built in the 1950s.

An extensive programme of repair and upgrading of the buildings and telescopes was completed in 2004 with the aid of a grant from the National Heritage Lottery fund.

The site is now listed Grade II* and continues to be a centre of learning and discovery as well as a place to observe the skies.

Our mission is never accomplished and your support can really help.

Plants for Pollinators!

Verbena Bonariensis We are continung to work on our borders and pots, re-planting with pollinators to attract a range of bees, butterflies etc.

We are gradually finding the plants that like our ground conditions and southerly aspect - and that can also withstand the invasion of rabbits. Fortunately there are a large number of purple flowers which are perfect with our purple branding.

Despite recent years of 'unusual weather' we are making great progress and some plants are doing so well we have an abundance of young plants to share with you. From spring to autumn we have a table of plants available for a donation of just £1 per plant, which all helps to support The Centre.

Spread the buzz!
PLUS: We also have a magnificent lily pond.
Ken looks after them and each summer he creates a 'lucky dip' tub of
root stock which you can take home for a donation of just £5 per root.      We can't guarantee the colour, but when you look at our pond you can see for yourself just how stunning all of the lilies are.
