NEW for 2017!

We are proud to present our beautiful new large scale Orrery! This fantastic addition to the Spectacular Science exhibits is located in the Domes of Discovery exhibition in Dome F. The Orrery shows the movements of the planets and our Moon around the Sun giving you a fantastic insight into why we can see planets at different times as the years progress.

In addition we now have a Lithophone. This fantastic musical instrument is an octave made of stone. Come and try it for yourself and see what tunes you can play.

Spectacular Science for Schools
On the 21st October The Centre will re-open at 6.30pm for the evening. As well as the indoor hands-on interactive exhibits you can also take the opportunity to look through some of the country's largest historic telescopes at some fascinating night sky objects including the Andromeda galaxy and the Ring nebula (weather permitting). This evening also coincides with the end of the peak of the Orionids meteor shower so watch out for some fast moving meteor as they streak across the sky. Viewing is weather permitting. However, there will be a cloudy night contingency planetarium show as well as being able to look at the telescopes and listen to knowledgeable operators. If the weather is unsuitable and there is nobody in the Centre before 8pm then the evening will be cancelled.
